Application of Wollastonite in the Metallurgical Industry

Primarily used as a base material for producing granulated slab continuous casting, mold casting, and carbon-free mold fluxes. Due to the stable composition of wollastonite, it ensures defect-free and smooth-surfaced cast slabs. Since CaO and SiO₂ in wollastonite exist in a combined state, their ratio falls precisely within the alkalinity range required for continuous casting, reducing the variety of base materials needed for flux formulation, simplifying the process, and providing the mold flux with excellent thermal stability. Additionally, because wollastonite has a very low Al₂O₃ content, it enhances the mold flux's ability to absorb Al₂O₃.

Steelmaking slag conditioner, low-aluminum pre-melted synthetic slag

Due to the stable chemical properties and appropriate alkalinity of wollastonite, small pieces of wollastonite can be used as slag conditioners and low-aluminum pre-melted synthetic slag directly for deoxidizing molten steel, enhancing the fluidity of molten steel, and removing non-metallic inclusions from molten steel. It is an ideal metallurgical auxiliary material for smelting special steel and pure steel.

Welding materials and fluxes

In the welding electrode industry, wollastonite is used in the electrode coating to accelerate the melting rate and improve the fluidity of the slag. It has been applied abroad for many years. When used in electrode coatings, wollastonite offers advantages such as energy saving, resistance to porosity, enhanced weld strength, smoother weld surfaces, improved droplet transition, and accelerated coating melting speed.
