Soluble in water, decomposing into barium hydroxide and barium hydrosulfide, with the aqueous solution being strongly alkaline, corrosive, capable of burning skin and causing hair loss. Main uses: primarily used in the production of barium salts, arsenic-free hydrogen sulfide, lithopone, and luminous paint; also used as a rubber vulcanizing agent and leather depilatory agent, and in agriculture as an acaricide and sterilizing agent.
