Product Introduction
Magnesium hydroxide is a white amorphous powder. Also known as caustic magnesia, light-burned magnesia, etc., its suspension in water is called magnesium hydroxide emulsion, commonly referred to as milk of magnesia, with the English name Magnesium hydroxide. Magnesium hydroxide is a colorless hexagonal prismatic crystal or white powder, sparingly soluble in water and alcohol, soluble in dilute acids and ammonium salt solutions, with its aqueous solution being weakly alkaline. Its solubility in water is very low, but the dissolved portion is completely ionized. The concentration of a saturated aqueous solution is 1.9 mg/L (18°C). When heated to 350°C, it loses water and forms magnesium oxide. The natural mineral form of magnesium hydroxide is brucite. It can be used in the production of sugar and magnesium oxide, among other applications. Due to its relatively abundant natural occurrence and chemical properties similar to those of aluminum, users have begun to replace aluminum chloride with magnesium hydroxide in antiperspirant products. It is also used as an analytical reagent and in the pharmaceutical industry.
Product Applications
1. Magnesium hydroxide is an excellent flame retardant for plastic and rubber products. In environmental protection, it serves as a flue gas desulfurizer and can replace caustic soda and lime as a neutralizing agent for acidic wastewater. It is also used as an oil additive for corrosion prevention and desulfurization. Additionally, it is applied in the electronics industry, medicine, sugar refining, as insulation material, and in the production of other magnesium salt products.
2. Magnesium hydroxide exhibits excellent buffering capacity, reactivity, adsorption performance, and thermal decomposition properties. It can serve as both a chemical material and an intermediate, as well as an environmentally friendly flame retardant and additive used in the polymer material industry, including rubber, plastics, fibers, and resins. In the environmental protection field, magnesium hydroxide is primarily applied as a flame retardant, acidic wastewater treatment agent, heavy metal removal agent, and flue gas desulfurization agent.
3. This product can be used as a flame retardant or flame-retardant filler added to polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, and ABS resin, offering good flame retardancy and smoke suppression effects, with an addition amount of 40 to 20 parts. However, the particle surface needs to be treated with an anionic surfactant. Inexpensive higher fatty acid alkali metal salts, alkyl sulfates, or sulfonated succinates and other anionic surfactants can be used, with a dosage of approximately 3%. This product is also used in the manufacture of magnesium salts, sugar refining, the pharmaceutical industry, daily chemicals, and other applications.
4. This product is also used in the manufacture of magnesium salts, refining of sugar, pharmaceutical industry, daily chemical industry, etc. At the same time, the water vapor it releases can also serve as a smoke suppressant. Magnesium hydroxide is an excellent flame retardant in the rubber and plastic industry, offering the triple functions of flame retardancy, smoke suppression, and filling.
5. The milky suspension of magnesium hydroxide is used in medicine as an antacid and laxative.
Storage Conditions
This product should be stored in a sealed, dry, and cool environment. It should not be exposed to air for extended periods to prevent moisture absorption and agglomeration, which may affect its dispersion performance and effectiveness. Additionally, avoid heavy pressure and transport as ordinary cargo.
