It is a typical hard aluminum alloy in the aluminum-copper-magnesium series, with a relatively reasonable composition and good overall performance. This alloy is produced in many countries and is the most widely used among hard aluminum alloys. Its characteristics include high strength and certain heat resistance, making it suitable for working parts below 150°C. At temperatures above 125°C, the strength of the 2024 alloy is higher than that of the 7075 alloy. It exhibits good formability in the hot state, annealed state, and newly quenched state, with significant heat treatment strengthening effects, though the heat treatment process requires strict control. Its corrosion resistance is relatively poor, but it can be effectively protected by cladding with pure aluminum. It is prone to cracking during welding, but special techniques can be used for welding, and it can also be riveted. It is widely used in aircraft structures, rivets, truck wheels, propeller components, and various other structural parts.
