The molecular formula is ZnS, with a molecular weight of 97.45, a melting point of 1020°C (15 MPa), and it appears as a white to gray or light yellow powder with a density of 4.08 g/cm³. It is almost insoluble in water but soluble in acids. Prolonged exposure to humid air can cause it to convert into zinc sulfate.
Main uses: Can be used to produce blue light-emitting tubes; powdered zinc sulfide is an important electroluminescent material and photoluminescent material, used in the manufacture of fluorescent screens for cathode ray tubes, scoreboard displays, luminous paint, etc.; widely applied in the production of infrared windows, fairings, and infrared optical components; zinc sulfide is also used in industries such as leather processing, enamel, rubber, and dyes; used as an analytical reagent, phosphor, and photoconductive material. It is also utilized in the manufacturing of dyes, coatings, pigments, glass, and solidified oils; used for various optical filters and laser window coatings; optical coating targets; X-ray fluorescent screens; with trace amounts of radium or new thorium salts added for luminous dials in watches; used in television fluorescent screens, etc. The company's annual output is 8,000 tons.
