Product Introduction
Manganese tetroxide is a black tetragonal crystal, also known as manganosite, hausmannite, or activated manganese oxide. It crystallizes upon calcination and belongs to the spinel group, with an ionic structure of , where divalent and trivalent manganese ions occupy two distinct lattice positions. The oxygen ions form a cubic close-packed arrangement, with divalent manganese ions occupying tetrahedral voids and trivalent manganese ions occupying octahedral voids. Below 1443 K, manganese tetroxide exhibits a distorted tetragonal spinel structure due to the Jahn-Teller effect, while above 1443 K, it adopts a cubic spinel structure.
Product Applications
1. Used in the electronics industry to produce soft magnetic ferrites, serving as magnetic cores for storing information in electronic computers, disks and tapes, telephone transformers and high-quality inductors, television flyback transformers, magnetic heads, inductors, magnetic amplifiers, saturable inductors, antenna rods, etc. It can also be used as a pigment in certain paints or coatings.
2. Manganese tetroxide is a high-quality raw material for synthesizing lithium manganese oxide, the cathode material for lithium-ion batteries, and is also used in the manufacturing of optical glass and low-temperature thermistors.
3. Used in the production of manganese, zinc, and iron soft magnetic ferrites, magnetic cores for storing information in electronic computers, disks and tapes, telephone transformers and high-quality inductors, television flyback transformers, magnetic heads for magnetic recording, magnetic amplifiers, saturable inductors, antenna rods, etc.
4. Manganese tetroxide is primarily used in the electronics industry as a raw material for producing soft magnetic ferrites. Soft magnetic ferrites are manufactured by mixing manganese, zinc, and iron oxides in a specific ratio, followed by sintering and molding. They exhibit a narrow remanence induction curve, can be repeatedly magnetized, and have high DC resistivity, which helps avoid eddy current losses. They are used as magnetic cores for storing information in electronic computers, magnetic disks and tapes, telephone transformers and high-quality inductors, television flyback transformers, magnetic recording heads, inductors, magnetic amplifiers, saturable inductors, antenna rods, and more. Additionally, they can be used as pigments in certain paints or coatings. Paints or coatings containing manganese tetroxide, when sprayed on steel, provide better corrosion resistance than those containing titanium dioxide or iron oxide.
Packaging and Storage
This product is packaged in inert gas-filled plastic bags and should be stored sealed in a dry, cool environment. It should not be exposed to air to prevent moisture-induced oxidative agglomeration, which may affect dispersion performance and usage effectiveness. Packaging quantities can be provided according to customer requirements, with sub-packaging available.
