Zirconium dioxide (chemical formula: ZrO2) is the primary oxide of zirconium. Under normal conditions, it appears as a white, odorless, and tasteless crystal, insoluble in water, hydrochloric acid, and dilute sulfuric acid. It often contains a small amount of hafnium dioxide. With low chemical reactivity and properties such as a high melting point, high resistivity, high refractive index, and low thermal expansion coefficient, it is an important high-temperature resistant material, ceramic insulating material, and ceramic opacifier. It is also the main raw material for artificial diamonds. Its band gap is approximately 5-7 eV.
